Psychotherapy uses a range of approaches to help break the cycle of unconscious thinking patterns that are influenced by the past and revealed in a person’s present behaviour.
There is new therapy available now to all those suffering from experiences such as depression, eating disorders, over-reaction to criticism, addictions, anxiety, stress, panic attacks, abusive behaviour, lack of self-worth, disconnection with selves and others, rage and fear.
These difficulties are viewed as a defence against feeling the pain of loss. Many issues that we experience are a reflection of either trauma, unhelpful beliefs and/or the experiences of emotionally unavailable primary care givers in our formative years.
As we explore and begin to understand these lost parts of ourselves, grieve over the loss and look at our unconscious thought patterns around these experiences, space is created for the opportunity to develop new and more helpful ways of thinking and being. This is a ‘working through’ process that takes time and commitment but is worth the effort!
Affect Therapy is relatively new to psychotherapy in Australia. Ongoing research is proving that clients gain much relief from this new perspective and way of treatment and the effects are more long term.
